Does the extraction include text from tables and grouped shapes?

Yes - anything typed into the file's text structures is fair game, including table cells and text inside groups. The two blind spots are text rendered inside images and text in embedded objects like a pasted Excel range.

Can I use the TXT to compare two versions of a deck?

That is one of its best tricks: export both versions and diff the text files line by line to see every wording change. The PPTX files themselves are ZIP containers, which ordinary diff tools cannot compare meaningfully.

How big will the TXT be compared to the deck?

Tiny - typically well under one percent of the PPTX, because presentations are mostly images, themes, and XML packaging. A 20 MB deck often reduces to a few kilobytes of actual words, which is exactly why decks make poor text archives.

A deck's entire written content flattens into a single plain-text file when you convert PPTX to TXT - readable by any script or search tool. Slide order is preserved, formatting is not, and that is the point: raw material for word counts, version diffs, translation memory, or feeding a language model.

Why convert PPTX to TXT?

Track wording changes between deck versions with a plain diff, which the zipped PPTX format defeats.
Estimate translation cost from an accurate word count of slides plus speaker notes.
Prepare clean NLP or LLM input free of the XML packaging that surrounds every word in a PPTX.

Tip: Text inside tables and grouped shapes is captured; words rendered inside images are not - run OCR separately if the deck is built from screenshots.
