About File Convert Online
What we do
File Convert Online converts files between formats directly in your browser session — audio, video, images, documents, ebooks, and archives, covering 45+ formats in total. You upload a file, pick a target format, and download the result. There is no software to install, no account required for everyday use, and no watermarks on your output.
The service is free for 5 conversions per day conversions per day with files up to 50 MB, supported by ads. Paid plans raise the limits, remove the ads, and unlock priority processing for people who convert files professionally.
Why we built it
Converting a file is a thirty-second problem that the web has made strangely painful: installers bundled with adware, "free" converters that paywall the download button, and upload forms that quietly keep your files. We wanted the version of this tool we would use ourselves — one page, drag a file in, get the result, done.
That principle shapes most of our decisions. Conversions run on our own server infrastructure rather than in third-party hands, output quality settings default to sensible values instead of upsell bait, and the free tier is genuinely usable rather than a demo.
How your files are handled
Privacy is the part of a file converter you cannot see, so we are explicit about it. Files are transferred over an encrypted connection (TLS), processed automatically by our conversion servers, and deleted within one hour of upload. No human looks at your files, we never use them for anything beyond the conversion you requested, and there is no archive to leak because nothing is kept. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How the conversions work
Under the hood, each conversion runs on dedicated backend services built around proven open-source conversion engines, tuned per format family: audio and video are transcoded with quality-first defaults, documents are rendered rather than crudely extracted, and images are converted with color profiles preserved. When a conversion cannot preserve something — converting a lossy MP3 to WAV does not restore lost quality, for example — the converter pages say so plainly rather than overpromising.
Who is behind it
File Convert Online is built and operated by Rumen Atanasov, a software engineer with a background in backend services and web infrastructure. He writes the code, runs the conversion servers, answers the support inbox, and authors the format guides on the blog — so the person explaining how a conversion behaves is the same one who built it. The operator's legal and registration details are published in the Imprint.
We fund the service through ads on the free tier and through paid plans. We do not sell user data, and we do not accept payment to recommend one file format over another — the format guidance on our converter pages and blog reflects how the formats actually behave.
