Do old PPT presentations open correctly in modern PowerPoint?

They open in Compatibility Mode, but embedded media, fonts, and newer transitions can degrade or go missing. Converting PPT to PPTX modernizes the file and re-enables the features PowerPoint has added since 2007.

Why is my PPT so much bigger than the same deck as PPTX?

PPT is an uncompressed binary format, while PPTX stores XML inside a ZIP archive, typically 30-60% smaller for identical slides. Converting old decks is an easy way to reclaim mailbox and drive space.

How do I show a PPT presentation without PowerPoint?

Google Slides, LibreOffice Impress, and Keynote all import PPT with varying fidelity, so fonts and animations may shift. For a pixel-faithful, view-only version, convert the deck to PDF; each slide becomes a page, though animations are lost.
